Press Release

The Indian Film Festival of Cincinnati

Cincinnati, AUG 18, 2023.

The Indian Film Festival of Cincinnati (IFFCincy) “'Engage Diversity Through Film" - announces its Annual Film Festival lineup of narrative and documentary features and short films, to be showcased in theaters this year, August 18 - August 25, 2023. Emerging from the South Asian migration around the world, these films tell multi-generational stories transcending barriers of culture gender, country or faith. We invite you to experience a week of excellent independent cinema in our city.

IFFCincy is the only Indian Film festival in Ohio and is a programing partner of The India Cincinnati Sister City and The Cincinnati Art Museum. The festival is widely recognized as the premiere showcase for prestigious and groundbreaking Indian, Asian as well as international cinema.  Many of the films are made in the US.  A special feature this year in the spirit of diversity and inclusion, the film festival invites Ohio film makers to submit their films. The theme remains consistent we seek films that expand and speak to our humanity and our little planet.

Ratee Apana Founder and executive director of IFFCincy said “The audience excitement over the festival has been palpable the last few years. We were fortunate to have our show go virtual during Covid when several other festivals had to postpone their showings. Covid taught us resilience but also the need for human connection so at the height of Covid for 16 weeks we showed a film each week online and had the directors and cast discuss the film on the weekends with our local audiences over zoom”.

Cincinnati plays host to an incredible world-class cinema in the heart of its vibrant and developing downtown district. Ratee Apana says, " We are thrilled with this opportunity to share with our Cincinnati audience a carefully curated set of South Asian films. These films encompass a range of human experiences and social issues, which will resonate well with all communities.”

The festival will announce their full line up on July 20th. Highlights from this year’s lineup include premiers of several international award-winning films. Ratee adds, “Masterful performances cover: human rights, challenged abilities, gender values, bullying, sibling relationships, love, LGBTQ, racism, aging, immigration, and displacement.  We will showcase several films produced and/or directed by women. Many of the directors and producers of our films will be available for discussion on specific days on streaming media during the two weeks of the film festival.  While a few of the films are in English, all films have subtitles in English."

Individual tickets and passes will be available on our website www.Iffcincy.com and will go on sale July 1.

Schedule of films will be posted July 20th, 2021.

IFCCincy Vision: To engage diversity through film. To bring understanding and reflection to the common human values that bind us both because of and in spite of our diversity.

IFFCincy Mission: Portion of the net proceeds of ticket sales will provide need-based scholarships for Cincinnati Public High School students to be part the Cincinnati Sister Cities Youth Ambassador Program (India). This program exposes students to the culture, history, diversity and economy of India through curricula and travel. Students are then paired with local corporate mentors and University students as a first step towards making University education their goal.
