                    Sold out audience at the Indian Film Festival of Cincinnati

Cincinnati, 10th Oct 2024 - The 9th Annual Indian Film Festival of Cincinnati opened to an electrifying start, with Cincinnati’s Coroner Dr Laxmi Kode Sammarco officiating the festival.  Held on Friday the 4th October, at the Children's Theatre of Cincinnati, the event drew a full house, showcasing the festival’s growing popularity and the enthusiastic spirit of cinema lovers. The excitement for the festival was palpable as audiences streamed in on Thursday, Oct 3rd at the historic Mariemont theater to watch the bio-story of  iconic actress Aparna Sen. Present were her daughter Kamalini Chatterjee and director Sumanth Ghosh. Present were representatives from the OTR festival as well as  from the organization  Women in Film and UC's film department together with other local directors actors and fellow cinephiles. 

Throughout the weekend at both Mariemont Theatre and The Children's theatre ​the venues buzzed with excitement, with nearly every seat filled—a true reflection of the festival’s growing popularity and the unwavering passion of its cinema-loving audience.

As the festival continued its cinematic journey, attendees took in more captivating screenings, insightful discussions, and memorable interactions with the creative minds behind the showcased films.

"The 9th Annual Indian Film Festival of Cincinnati kept its promise to be a celebration of art, culture, and the magic of storytelling. We were overwhelmed by the strong show of support not only at the prelude and opening nights but at each of the screenings" said Festival Director  and founder, Ratee Apana. People came from as far away as Cleveland, Naperville, Columbus, Philadelphia, Columbus and Dayton and Seattle. 

Cincinnati's culinary legacy took center stage both at the venues and at the exclusive film premiere after-parties. Following the captivating film screening and discussion of the Opening Film “The Queen of My Dreams” by Fawzia  Mirza, attendees at the Indian Film Festival of Cincinnati were treated to a sophisticated culinary experience at the renowned Le Bar à Boeuf. Against the backdrop of the Queen City’s skyscape, our guests embraced the opportunity to deepen their connection with Cincinnati and indulge in the rich culinary heritage of maestro, Jean Robert de Cavel. Other after parties included  a wonderful night at  Cincinnati's own speak easy "Ghost Baby" and the closing film was followed by a sit down plated afterparty  at the renowned  Quarter Bistro,  which is conveniently attached to the Mariemont  theatre, where chef Chris led with Euro India fare.

Awards went to :

Most Outstanding Film -Sumanth Bhat of Mithya​.

Best  Romantic Film - The OutHouse.

Best Screen play Feature - Fawzia Mirza for Queen of My Dreams.

Best Director- Sumanth Bhat for Mithya.

Outstanding Documentary -Suman Ghosh for Parama: A journey with Aparna Sen. 

Best Actress- Tanishta Chatterjee for The Yellow Bus.

Best Actor - Atish Shetty for Mithya.

Best Short Film - Anhad Mishra for Khidki.

Best Director - Anshul Agrawal for A Night After All. 
Diversity Award for Best Film - Tathagatha Ghosh for IF 

Film Critics Of India  (FCCI) Award for best screenplay: Sumanth Bhat for Mithya.

House of Illusions, India, award for best Cinematography -OutHouse.
